School History
It was the October 1987 when the ambitious project that would become SEK Paraguay International School was confirmed. Work began with the aim to begin the first school year in 1988, the Manor House belonging to the Casabianca family near the golf course and Yacht and Golf Club was chosen for the project.
The school quickly grew, and so work began on a permanent modern location, which was opened in March 1992. The new premises were on Mercedes Grau street near the main street leading to the Yacht and Golf Club. The new, sizeable, modern, bright facilities, surround by nature were equipped with all the tools and resources needed to continue the work of educating students with a permanent focus on excellence and in the unique SEK style.
In 1993, the new dining room was opened, this allowed for greater capacity, and during 1994 the work was finished on the catering facilities and 4 classroom blocks. Various other complements have been added to the main structure since its construction, including a multidisciplinary gymnasium, an undercover heated swimming pool, laboratory, workshops, flood lit AstroTurf football pitch and an extension to Kinder 2 and 3.
Currently under construction is a new permanent Kinder block, which is a modern and innovative project, described as “America’s most modern”.
The school offers bilingual studies in Spanish and English, beginning at the pre-school level, as well as Portuguese and Guaraní. International exchanges are also on offer, enabling students to experience different cultures in multiple contexts.
SEK International School established itself as a pioneer in new educational projects in Paraguay. Among these, the introduction of interactive whiteboards, the use laptops in class, the international Microsoft certificate MOS (Microsoft Office Specialist) and the iPad project. Recently students in primary have started learning Robotics and fifth and sixth grades using digital books on their iPads in class.
